As a woman in the real estate industry for the past 10 years I have experience a lot of ups and downs in my business and personal life. These were all due to my choosing in life, what I wanted to do, who I wanted to spend my time with and seeking the wrong things in life that would eventually hurt me.
I began my real estate career in 2004 as an escrow representative shortly leaving my radio station/ broadcasting gig, The Velvet Lounge that I had at my college in Cal State Fullerton. Not knowing anything about real estate I started temping at an escrow office and within a week the manager had hired me. He said that he was so impressed by the way I had greeted him with a standing “hello, how can I help you?” that I must get hired for his company and hit the pavement. And sure enough God's plan started to opening doors for me. You see I knew nothing about real estate, just that it involved selling properties and realtors. I especially knew nothing about escrow, but I was hired to sale my company to lenders and realtors all over Orange County. With such a large territory that included, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Irvine and Anaheim I was able to meet a lot of people in the real estate industry. I met some agents who were amazing realtors and I also meet the lazy realtors, the drinkers, the weasel realtors and the realtors who have had a lot of experience but no time for others. I then said to myself, “If they can do it, so can I”. So I took my test and failed the first time. I was devastated, I had not studied so hard for any test in my life a fail by 1%. So I retook and moved back to San Diego with my parents hoping that I would pass it the second round. I even joined a real estate company, in 2006 McMillin Realty before I got my license just to learn and be around the movers and shakers of the industry while waiting patiently for good news that I had passed my real estate test.
A couple years down the road I was one of the realtors who started YPN (Young Professional Network) in South County San Diego. We hosted networking events, that involved speakers but was tailored around cocktails aka alcohol. Which was possibly hurting other professionals in their business or family life due to temptations or leading others on the wrong path. At the time I didn’t see this as being wrong because I enjoyed it and had fun with my colleagues but I was blinded by my desires. I eventually would find myself at networking events with my girlfriends just to have cocktails and then go out for the rest of the evening. I started a downward spiral that would eventually have me at my knees praying to God for help. You see, I had lost myself. I thought that all this fun would make me happy but in the long run I was hurting myself one network event and cocktail at a time.
One day at my weekend open house, I had a couple stop by and visit. We recognized each other and I eventually helped them with the purchase of their home that would soon change my life. There was something different about these clients compared to all other clients I had worked with. They would invite me into prayer in front of the property asking God for His blessing on the home. And when the Good Lord finally provided the home for their family they invited me to their first bible study. I went and my heart was moved and I wanted to know more about Jesus. I had already been calling Him in my life, I just didn’t know how to seek him or go deeper with him. I didn’t even know how to read the bible. So I was going to their bible study for a solid year every other week and I grew to know God and his presence and I wanted to know more, I became thirsty for His knowledge. So one day while sitting on my bed I asked God, “Lord, may you please bring me a man who loves you more than I do. Someone who likes to cook because I don’t want to be the only one cooking, someone who is funny but doesn’t talk too much, someone who likes to dance, and make sure he is an entrepreneur so that we can travel the world and do your works. And of course I have to be attracted to him.” And two months later it’s as if God opened up his hands and created him just for me. I had met my future husband, Pete Sanchez III also known as the Short Sale Kid at a YPN networking event in La Jolla. I wasn’t planning on going to especially because of my recent past but God knew what He was doing. Pete and I shortly became friends that soon developed into a relationship. He was everything I had prayed for and more. God’s plan was moving forward.
I shortly joined Impact 195, a discipleship school that would forever change my view and understanding of what it means to be a Christian and carry your cross. This school was a one-year commitment where you learn how to interpret the bible and learn your spiritual gifts as well as your strengths that would later develop me into a leader in the church.
